George Washington was the first President of the United States from 1789-1797. He was also the Commander in Chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War and one of the Founding Fathers of the United States. Was presided over the drafting of the Constitution replacing the Articles of Confederation, establishing the position of President. Washington’s leadership style established many rituals and forms of the government that is still used today such as using a cabinet system and the inaugural address . During his lifetime Washington was hailed as the “father of his country”.
