George Pataki ( born June 24, 1945) was the 53rd Governor of New York.  Pataki was a lawyer who was elected as mayor in his hometown of Peekskill. He later went on to be elected in the State Assembly and then State Senate for the Republican Party. Pataki announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination in the 2016 Presidential election.

Pataki’ s campaign failed to gain ground. He failed to make the main stage in candidate debates and at some was excluded all together. On December 29, 2015 he announced his withdraw from the Presidential Race and his endorsement for Florida Senator Marco Rubio.

One thing he did well was to decide to withdraw, but this happens with all the candidates except one. In fact, his candidacy was never taken seriously, so it was a matter of time until he gave his support to other candidate.

You get the impression with candidates like Pataki that their shot at the position of president is just a showcase for a general political career. Similar to miss world candidates, the meaningless soundbites are just used to secure a new career.

I agree with that Keith. Being a presidential candidate gives them a big visibility and might end up boosting their political career. It’s all marketing and the political level I am afraid.
